Often growing nerby water areas, in lines or wind-break. They stand on 274.000 ha.
Poplars can reach 30 meters tall, with very quick growth and show a reduced life (maturity at 20 to 30 years). Their trunks are very cylindrical.

Sawn timber is white to pale-greyish coloured.
Poplar is straight-grained,slightly curved, sometimes fluffy with fine and uniform texture.

It can easily treated (impregnation, high temperature treatment, surface coating), which allows it to be used in class 3 ( timber exposed to humid atmosphere ).
